Performs the most difficult and complex types of duties and provides the oversight of other maintenance workers performing work in dangerous and hazardous environments.
Operates a variety of equipment including trucks, snowplows, salt spreader, hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, electronic test meters, pumps and various other vehicles and equipment.
Responds to questions and concerns from the general public, contractors, and businesses.
Participates in housekeeping duties, grounds and building maintenance.
Performs on-call duties and overtime and other duties as required.
Fills in on various routes and distributes public education materials to relevant programs and authorities.

The City of Olathe is seeking a skilled Senior Maintenance Worker to join our Solid Waste Division . This senior-level position is ideal for someone who takes pride in hands-on work, values safety, and enjoys solving problems in the field. In this role, you will perform advanced maintenance and repair work on solid waste equipment, containers, and facilities. You will also support division operations and help guide less experienced team members. Your work will help ensure reliable service for residents and businesses throughout the Olathe community.
We are looking for a skilled maintenance professional who can work independently, lead by example, and contribute to a team focused on service, safety, and reliability. Candidates must hold a valid State of Kansas Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License and maintain a favorable driving record.
Physical and Work Environment
This is a physically demanding position with work performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. The role regularly requires:
Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
Pushing and pulling containers up to 300 pounds
Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling
Walking long distances and standing for extended periods
Climbing in and out of large vehicles and onto equipment
Working in varying weather conditions and around dust, odors, noise, traffic, and moving equipment
