About the role
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently recruiting for a Compliance Auditor to join its talented team of professionals in the Regulatory Compliance Branch. Your responsibilities will include conducting audits of industry-reported closure activities and timelines, verifying compliance, and enforcement activities for closure nominated sites. You will play a pivotal role in program development, compliance tracking, target selection, and data analysis, helping to deliver impactful reporting and recommendations that strengthen our regulatory oversight. What your day-to-day will look like: Lead and independently conduct complex audits on operations within the AER's jurisdiction. Prepare audit plans, collect, and analyze information from varied and numerous sources to determine compliance, resolve problems and make recommendations to improve regulatory compliance. Prepare audit letters, notice of noncompliance letters, audit reports, perform follow-up actions and execute compliance assurance processes as required. Ensure all audit file documentation is compiled and saved appropriately. Gather compliance information from industry submissions and internal reports, create summary analyses, and assist with reporting tasks. What we're looking for in you: Degree in engineering, environmental sciences, or other related fields. 8 years of industry experience in environmental sciences, regulatory compliance, audit, or data analysis. Experience in auditing, compliance assurance or other related regulatory experience, and working knowledge of the closure quotas, closure nomination or other liability management areas is considered an asset. Experience with data analysis and database management is considered an asset. Experience and understanding of AER regulatory requirements, including Directive 088, and Manual 023, is considered an asset. Strong oral and written communications skills, attention to detail and technical accuracy. Ability to work independently and with a team paired with strong strategic thinking and planning skills.
