Grade Level (for internal use): 12 Role Overview As Director, Client Coverage based in Japan, you will be responsible for developing and executing sales strategies, licensing S&P Dow Jones Indices' (S&P DJI) index data and intellectual property, managing key client relationships and prospecting new opportunities. Responsibilities and Impact Develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies to expand S&P Dow Jones Indices' commercial footprint within the Japanese market, achieving annual revenue targets through index licensing and data sales Build and maintain strategic relationships with major Japanese financial institutions including asset managers, investment banks, exchanges, and proprietary trading firms to drive business growth Lead complex contract negotiations and establish commercial terms for index licensing, data sales, and custom calculation services while ensuring compliance with Japanese regulatory requirements Mentor and coach junior sales professionals to strengthen team capabilities and support individual career development within the Tokyo office Consultatively sell innovative index solutions addressing Japanese market trends including ESG, multi-asset, and factor investing opportunities Monitor client usage patterns, conduct compliance reviews, and provide exceptional client service to maximize retention and identify expansion opportunities Basic Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution Minimum 10 years of successful revenue generation experience in investment products, market data sales, or institutional sales, preferably within the Japanese financial services sector Minimum 2+ years in sales management or leadership roles with demonstrated ability to drive team performance Native-level Japanese and business-fluent English communication skills, with proven ability to build trust and influence stakeholders across cultures Established relationships with major Japanese financial institutions such as asset management firms, investment banks, exchanges, or hedge funds Deep understanding of Japanese market structures, regulatory environment, and local business culture including consensus-building and relationship-oriented approaches Additional Preferred Qualifications: CFA or equivalent professional certifications in finance or investment management Experience in complex contract negotiation and intellectual property sales or licensing within Japan Knowledge of key investment trends including indexing, ESG investing, factor investing, and multi-asset class solutions Familiarity with Japanese investment products such as ETFs, mutual funds, SMAs, and collective trusts, along with understanding of local client preferences About S&P Global Dow Jones Indic e s At S&P Dow Jones Indices, we provide iconic and innovative index solutions backed by unparalleled expertise across the asset-class spectrum.
