The Audiology Extern at Albany Medical Center will observe and participate in the administering of diagnostic audiological tests that allow the differentiation between types of hearing disorders. The Audiology Extern's duties will include, but are not limited to providing audiometric evaluations, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions and stapedial acoustic reflex testing for adults and children. The Audiology Extern will be asked to obtain a NYS hearing aid trainee license and will be exposed to hearing aid testing, selection and fitting to all populations. In this position, the Audiology Extern will be mentored by department Audiologists as they counsel patients regarding test results and review options that best meet their hearing care needs. Reviews pricing and sale of hearing aids as a part of the patient education process. Opportunity to participate in specialized testing including VNG, VEMP, NBHS, neurodiagnostic and sedated ABR, cochlear implant evaluations and programming, Osia and Baha evaluations and programming.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Salary Range: $18.00/hr - $23.00/hr
Administers Diagnostic Tests
Provides amplification services including, hearing aid assessment testing, real ear measurements and live speech mapping
Coordinates and interprets test results
Consults with and makes recommendation on hearing disorders to physicians
Based on test results, diagnosis of audio and vestibular disorders
Coordinates care with physicians and other providers
Completes chart notes for each patient seen
Manages Hearing Rehabilitation
Counsels patients regarding test results
Makes recommendation regarding hearing care options
Reviews products available to improve hearing impairment
Provides hearing aid dispensing, including selection, fitting, ear-mold acoustics, ongoing management with follow-up, and education
Performs hearing aid repairs
Performs hearing aid checks and cleaning
Evaluates and discusses cochlear implant options, Baha and Osia options
Programs cochlear implants, Baha and Osia with orientation of recipients to devices
Miscellaneous Duties
Maintains positive relationships with colleagues and is receptive to constructive evaluations
Assists patients with exchanges or returns of hearing aids as needed
Provides excellent customer service and maintains good public relations
Is responsible for independent management of office procedures with guidance
Shares administrative duties with colleagues as needed
Flexibility
