Introduction The Optical Column department in Veldhoven develops advanced optical metrology systems for semiconductor manufacturing. In this internship, you will help improve how images are corrected and analyzed using a digital twin environment. You contribute by exploring machine learning approaches to enhance system performance. Your work supports faster development and validation of next-generation metrology solutions. If you are interested in combining physics, algorithms, and data-driven methods, this opportunity is for you. Your assignment In this assignment, you will work with a simulation environment to test and improve image correction and overlay estimation processes. You will explore how machine learning can complement existing physics-based methods and help improve performance. You will collaborate with experts to understand current approaches and translate insights into practical solutions. Your main responsibilities will be: Analyze and understand the existing image correction pipeline in the digital twin Design and implement a machine learning-based image correction approach Compare the performance of your solution with the current baseline methods Develop validation methods and write tests to ensure reliable functionality Build tools to evaluate outcomes and visualize results clearly Present findings and document methods, insights, and recommendations Collaborate with domain experts to refine approaches and validate conclusions This is a bachelor/master internship for minimum 6 months, minimum 4 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026 and is flexible. Your profile To be suitable for the internship, you: Are pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in physics, optics, electrical engineering, or optical engineering with a focus on machine learning Have experience with MATLAB or Python for data analysis and visualization Are analytical and test ideas using structured and evidence-based thinking Are proactive and take ownership of your work and learning Are collaborative and communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written Other requirements you need to meet: You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship ; Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular; You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter needs to include the willingness to relocate.
