What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a Year Round - R&D Undergraduate Intern to join our dynamic team! On any given day, you may be called on to: Assist in the gathering of hydrologic field data involving both the operation and upkeep of scientific instrumentation. Additionally, the work will expose you to the application of that data for both reporting and scientific research. Assist in laboratory experimentation on non-organic/non-radioactive samples utilizing basic and advanced laboratory equipment Perform entry-level work within a research and development, science and engineering environment working in conjunction with Sandia staff on projects that involve applying integrated technical judgment which requires using the scientific method to recognize and formulate problems, to collect data through observation and experimentation, and to formulate and test hypotheses. You will be called upon to support work in the fundamentals of science and engineering while applying an understanding of engineering and scientific principles. Assist in the creation and application of scientific theories and laws and engineering methods used within scientific and engineering disciplines to develop or demonstrate new designs, concepts, materials, machines, products, processes, or systems. For the Carlsbad Site, you may be called upon to perform field work laboratory work, data management and/or data analysis for the Repository Science R+D Team in the Carlsbad, NM site. This position will mainly support the hydrology/geochemistry teams. Salary Range: At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require: You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements: Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position. Qualifications We Desire: Students pursuing one of the following majors: Hydrology, Geochemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Chemistry or Geological Engineering. General knowledge of technical principles and processes. Understanding of the use a variety of research tools. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to contribute in a team environment. General knowledge of project management. General knowledge and good understanding of a suite of software, including Microsoft Office. Ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values.
