About the role
We're looking for a leader for our mechanical/product design engineering team in San Francisco. You'll oversee development of highly complex electromechanical products, including our flagship product (the Pod) as well as an ambitious roadmap of brand new products that don't yet exist. The ideal candidate will have significant experience launching successful products from concept through to production. This role will report to the Chief Product Officer. This role is based out of our San Francisco office 5 days/week How You'll Contribute This is a player-coach leadership role - you will be the technical anchor for mechanical execution while building and leading a small team. Collaborate with stakeholders across electrical engineering, software engineering, sensing and clinical, operations, marketing, and finance to develop and launch products successfully. Grow and manage a high-performing engineering team Manage mechanical, soft goods, and prototype & test engineers, operating as a player-coach who stays close to the technical details. Hire and coach talented engineers who can move fast and are committed to our mission. Foster a culture of excellence and collaboration. Implement systems and processes to ensure the team is operating at peak efficiency, including design reviews, clear ownership, and phase gates. Provide feedback, coaching, and performance management to help the team consistently deliver. What You'll Need to Succeed 8+ years of experience developing complex electromechanical systems, ideally high-volume consumer hardware. Track record of launching products successfully under aggressive timelines with lean teams, including scaling products to high volume production in Asia (tooling, build management - EVT, DVT, PVT - test tool development, and testing).
