Directly manage and coach school staff, including Assistant Teachers and Food Service Assistants
Assist in the development and implementation of school policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives as directed by the Head of Schools
Identify and address areas of improvement and implement efficient systems to enhance operational effectiveness
Monitor and address any operational issues or emergencies, providing timely and effective solutions to minimize disruptions
Supervise facilities management including maintenance, security, and safety protocols
Serve as the point of contact with the site partner and all vendors to ensure services meet expectations
Ensure all physical work environments within the local schools are safe, well-equipped, organized efficiently, and operating successfully for diverse students, families, and staff, including conducting regular internal audits
Conduct weekly internal licensing and facility audits and daily walk-throughs to ensure school is well-maintained and issues are proactively addressed
Ensure accurate daily attendance tracking for all enrolled children
Collaborate on school-wide initiatives by participating in the planning and coordination of family and community engagement events
Manage and organize child and staff files according to Arizona licensing regulations across multiple sites
As needed, serve as the school's licensing designee when the Head of School is not in the building

As Assistant Head of School, you will support Bezos Academy schools with children ages three through five as part of a growing multi-state network of high quality, tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschools in under-resourced communities. You will work closely with the Head of School in Glendale to ensure smooth school operations, build a strong family community, develop teaching staff, and support the educational experience for each child in every classroom. You bring leadership and management experience, and a passion for our mission to expand access to high quality preschool in under-resourced communities. The Assistant Head of School plays a vital role in ensuring smooth operations and effective communication within the school community.
LOCATION
We are actively hiring for an Assistant Head of School for our preschool in Glendale - Desert Garden Park (7020 W Ocotillo Rd, Building 8, Glendale, AZ 85303).
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, salaried position.
The full salary range for this position is $66,000 - $99,000 per year. The upper third of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who have been in the role for multiple years and demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by qualifications and prior experience.
This role includes 15 paid days of vacation, 4 days of paid personal time off, and 9 paid days of sick (care) time prorated based on your position start date, as well as 9 paid holidays, 5 paid days off for an organization-wide winter break, and additional time off if required by applicable law. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree
Five or more years of teaching or leading in an accredited childcare center or school with young children (ages 0 through 3 rd grade)
1+ years of experience with operational or instructional leadership of a multi-classroom school/center (e.g. as an Assistant Head of School, coaching other teachers, leading community outreach or similar)
2+ years prior work experience with children and families in low-income communities in the US OR significant personal experience in low-income communities in the US (grew up and/or attended school in)
Meet the minimum qualifications for being a school director or Facility Director's designee in Arizona
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Experience as head of school/center director for a preschool
Experience monitoring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
Experience managing vendors and addressing performance issues
Experience with Montessori philosophy and curriculum
Proven results coaching and supervising staff
